Tournament Nets $43,000 For WVUH-East Hospitals
Organizers of the 2011 Bernie Hutzler Memorial Golf Classic, sponsored by the foundations for West Virginia University Hospitals-East, are calling Monday’s event a huge success as the annual golf fund raiser netted $43,000 to benefit City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
Co-Chairs Jeff Petrucci, Chris Colbert and Montie Hicks reported that a full flight of 144 golfers played in the 24th annual golf classic held at The Woods. The winning team of Jody Boggs, Steve Christian, Romelda Porter and C.D. Linton shot a 48 to earn the overall first place finish.
The winning team along with the organizing committee directed proceeds from the tournament to be used for naming opportunities in the oncology unit at City Hospital and the new women’s imaging center at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in memory of Brookeann Knotts. Knotts, who succumbed to cancer last fall, was a longtime golf classic committee member and senior administrative assistant in the marketing and foundation office at WVUH-East.
“As we celebrate our 24th anniversary for this golf event, we thought it only fitting to use the proceeds to pay tribute to someone who worked so hard to help organize our WVUH-East golf tournaments for the past nine years,” stated Teresa McCabe, vice president of marketing and development at WVUH-East.
To date, over $1 million has been raised from the WVUH-East golf tournaments to benefit the two hospitals. “We thank all of our supporters who year after year make our golf fund raiser a huge success as one of the premier golf events in the region,” McCabe added.
