WVUH-East, as a not-for-profit hospital, is exempt from paying taxes that for-profit organizations are required to pay. This would include most income and sales taxes, and some property taxes. In return, WVUH-East re-invests any excess revenue back into the organization and community to be used for new programs, services, and technological equipment rather than distributing it to individual owners or stockholders.
As a not-for-profit hospital, we are dedicated to providing care to every member of our community regardless of their ability to pay. WVUH-East operates on patient payments and charitable donations alone, and is responsible for bearing the costs of improving quality of care and access to care. A Board of Trustees directs WVUH-East to assure that all members of the community receive the highest-level quality of care at the lowest rate possible.
WVUH-East's mission and vision is to continually improve the health status of our region, through the provision of high quality, cost effective health care and wellness services. As a not-for-profit health care provider, community well-being is our overriding goal and we strive to find new ways to keep the residents of our community healthy.
