Description

The West Virginia University School of Medicine Eastern Division is actively recruiting a board-eligible and/or board-certified general surgeon for faculty position. Strong commitment to patient care and education required. This full-time position will have clinical and teaching duties split between WVU Hospitals-East (Jefferson Hospital) in Charles Town, WV and nearby VA Medical Center. Responsibilities include patient care and teaching of residents and medical students. Opportunities are available for those interested in clinical/basic research.

WVU's new Eastern Division branch campus is in an area experiencing tremendous growth and offers excellent practice opportunities. Hospital Information

City Hospital — Founded in 1905, City Hospital is a non-profit community hospital located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, 90 miles from Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. It has 260 licensed beds, 144 staffed; 24-hour level 3 trauma center emergency room, critical care, obstetrics and pediatrics units. There are 897 employees, 125 physicians on staff in 30 different specialties. Current facility was built in 1970s and has been extremely well-maintained. Radiology services are digital; housing first in region 64-slice CT. Inpatient and outpatient oncology services; participating in oncology clinical trials. Has IMRT and IGRT radiation oncology. City Hospital has begun implementing an adult patient hospitalist program.

Jefferson Memorial Hospital — in Ranson, WV is a full service Critical Access Hospital with 25 acute care beds and 20 skilled nursing beds. The hospital has a 24-hour emergency department with 22,000 ED visits annually. It is a Level IV trauma center. The hospital offers digital radiology (PACS), SPECT, a critical care unit, and an obstetrics unit which hosts 300+ births per year.

West Virginia Hospitals-East — Introduced January 1, 2005, West Virginia Hospitals-East brings together City Hospital, Jefferson Memorial and West Virginia University Hospitals to form a new not-for-profit healthcare delivery system for the Eastern Panhandle.

As a unified healthcare delivery system, the mission of WVUH-East is to improve the health status of Eastern Panhandle residents by providing high-quality health and wellness services, expanding access to care and participating in the education of healthcare professions.
